LifeAnd another into the Dead Zone

Just when you thought that we were going to have a typical weblogging Dead Zone (i.e. the weekend), more juicy tidbits pop up.

An open letter from a neighbor to the North: You have become a nation of monsters, America. Hypocrites. Murderers. Fools. And an accompanying MeFi thread.

We in the US are more than aware of what's happening here, and many of us are doing what we can to counter actions of Bush, Ashcroft, and others. Perhaps if Mr. McDougall spent a little more time on the internet, reading, and a little less time writing uncontrolled, vitrolic, and counter-productive rants, he might meet a few of us "Americans" who aren't monsters, hypocrites, muderers, and fools.

(But I wouldn't recommend he start with Metafilter.)

Rant comma semicoherent it was. But I suspect it was a troll or sorts, and as such, effective.

I'd also argue that the phrase 'a nation of xxx' does not necessarily mean that every citizen of that nation is xxx, but that the xxx are winning...you're right about the MeFi thread, though. What a mess.

Vitrolic. I love that word. Interesting letter. Perhaps he's still ticked about the War of 1812? Residual hostility due to invasion attempts? Sheesh. Yet another lesson on "It's not what you say, but how you say it." He really has some cogent points there, hidden beneath the rancor. I was halfway listening, though, until he delved into the Kennedy conspiracy.

McDougall's "Open letter to America' might have been a bit of a rant, but to me it hit a cord -- it was the anger of frustration. The helpless frustration you feel with the schoolyard bully.

A Canadian friend had pointed it out to me, and of all the comments and emails I had at G'day Cobbers, not one has felt that frustration, they've all been upset because they've taken it personally. And, boy, do they hate 'Canucks'...

I am Canadian and do not share Mr McDougall's insanity. I'm embarrased for Mr McDougall and somewhat afraid for him if he sets foot in the US any time soon. Hell I want to kick his ass. People are still smarting from last year's events and this is insensitive self-centered drivel. This is one of those times where editing would have come in handy. I have been known to resent and rant about at the haves when I was a have not, but am learning that saying nothing at all often rocks the boat less. I usually see the errors in my judgement if enough time passes and if I've said nothing I have no mess to clean up. Perhaps Mr McDougall should have read what he wrote and put it into the recycle bin rather than hitting send.
