Switching Comments
I'm updating my PHP system, which is breaking dotcomments. So, I'm in the process of converting comments over to Movable Type. Until I'm finished, you won't be able to post new comments.
Update: The comments system has now been converted over to Movable Type comments. You'll have to check out the styles of the comments in both the main page and on the individual pages. Let me know if they don't display well in your OS and with your browser.
I also listened to the discussion about calendars and I was so inspired, I removed my calendar from the main page without a second thought. Jonathon, you're such a trendsetter, a weblogging stylist head of the pack. Alpha Designer.
You can still access previous postings through the monthly or category archives, though I only see the category archives used. Perhaps the next step is to remove the monthly archives and add in searching.
Now, on to muck up my PHP environment to add namespace parsing of XML.

What nice comments you have! I especially like this one:
I have never used these calendar widgets. They've always been next to useless. Monthly, Category, and Individual archives are pretty much all you need.
I'm guessing that Steve's non sequitur is the result of MT's rather brutal approach to not allowing HTML in comments? If so, it would be a good idea to put a note down below the buttons saying something about "HTML is prohibited, but urls that start with http:// will be converted to links." Or just allow it: in five months of allowing HTML in comments so far my only problem has been when I left an italics tag open before leaving for the weekend.
I think you're right Phil, and have re-enabled HTML.
Steve, sorry about losing the whatever it was you were going to add.
B!x, I agree -- I don't think anyone looks at the calendar. Gives me more room for other stuff.
Actually, nothing was lost. I was just counting on your next commenter to be witty and wise to make my joke work (thanks, Bix).
But you know what they say about having to explain a joke...
*blush*
well, now. Don't I feel sheepish ;-)
Classy comments, Bb. Seems like you're actually the Alpha Designer.
Great to see the anti-comment campaign gaining traction. Monthly archives are still acceptable, however.
I'll see your sheepish, and raise you a "Phil's a doltish moron."
Having been wrong once, I'll try again: looks like "remember info" isn't working, possibly because your script is defining the host "weblog.burningbird.net" but the comment page itself is at "burningbird.net".
Hopefully, this will work....
That did it -- thanks Phil!
You are still a steely eyed missle man!
All I care about is that there's a preview option. Must sanity check. Must always sanity check.
OK, maybe "sanity" is the wrong word.
I actually require previewing before posting on my sites now. I think I picked up that tip from Derek Powazek's book Design for Community.
Although it did result in one reader sending me email saying that there was no post button and so they were sending me email instead. But that was my fault. On one sight, I have a "preview then post" alert, but on the one in question, I didn't. Which I suppose might be legitimately confusing.
D'oh. "On one SITE" not "on one sight" -- and I even previewed first.
