Nuff war
Enough war stuff. The topic is important and there's a whole lot of stuff going on in the country that deserves discussion, but we also want to have fun. We need to have fun.
For instance, I'm extremely curious as to see what Dorothea's cookin up for the new weblog home. I have a bit of an idea (no telling though), but I am really looking forward to seeing the end result. And not just cuz Dorothea thinks I'm a cool person.
I've been reading quite a bit more recently, but haven't been overjoyed with all the books I've checked out from the library. I love "Let us Now Praise Famous Men" for the rich imagery, but the others have been less than interesting. I'll post the titles when I'm finished. (I usually read multiple books at once, trading off every night. I'm weird that way.)
It would be nice if all of the webloggers in my neighborhood listed their favorite books (favorites, not only the ones they talk about in public), so I could look for recommendations.
Hint. Hint.

What, all my favorite books?
I think MySQL would melt down into slag.
But maybe I can scratch together a few recommendations, at least.
Thanks for the list, Karl. You and I have read many of the same books, but I grabbed VOX from the list for my next visit to the library.
Dorothea, any recommendations would be welcome. But don't let this slow down your work on new weblog home. I want to see it.
currently reading 'Leaves of Grass'. am finding myself changed by it already. 'Grapes of Wrath' did the same thing.
Currently reading "Geek Love" (the bite-the heads-off-of-chickens kind, not the computer kind) by Katherine Dunn, and enjoying it thoroughly.
I keep hearing about that book from all directions. The subject matter sounds so horrible that I haven't picked it up.
Don't expect too much, Bb. This is me we're talking about here, the woman with the ocular equivalent of a tin ear.
A really fun book that I enjoyed this summer was "Good in Bed" by Jennifer Weiner--www.jenniferweiner.com. It was really fresh, a really different perspective, and quite surprising. It was the first book that I've REALLY enjoyed in a long time.
Some excellent suggestions. Thanks very much!
I heard "Good in Bed" is good too. She works for the Philadelphia Inquirer (local newspaper I work for too) and she has a weblog there!
oh yeah... i discovered keck last week as well. excellent writer and as it turns out, a friend of ryan (also in st louis). here's a pdf of his book 'BABYHEAD': http://www.thekeck.com/babyhead.pdf
Yep, I'm anxiously awaiting her followup to the debut novel. The title is very misleading, but eye-catching, as I suppose it must be for a first novel!
